Star Trek Papercraft: Romulan Warbird Starship

The D'deridex-class Warbird starship of the Romulan Star Empire first made its appearance on the Star Trek: The Next Generation television show. According to Zosho, the creator of this paper model of the ship, the Warbird is a large, heavily armed starship equipped with an excellent cloaking device. Zosho painstakingly created the template for the Warbird with Adobe Photoshop. All thirteen of the pages of the template may be downloaded here.

Star Trek Communicator Papercraft

Here's a paper model of a communicator reminiscent of the ones used in the original Star Trek television series from the 60's. Purists will recognize that this model is not exactly like the original communicator props, but it is still a lot of fun to build, especially considering that it only has two parts (believe it or not!) The communicator template was created in Coreldraw by DeviantART member Frohickey and may be downloaded from his gallery.

Lost in Space Papercraft: Landing Pod

Ron Caudillo is a well known designer of science fiction paper models. His Star Trek TOS models of the USS Enterprise and its bridge have delighted Trek fans since 2003. Less well known perhaps is his papercraft model of the landing pod from the 1960's televisionshow, Lost in Space. The pod was introduced in the third season of the show as a means to transport the crew of the Jupiter 2 spaceship down to the surface of alien planets. Pendercrafts.com has made the template for the LIS pod available in a zip file. The zip file also includes numerous Caudillo designs including paper models of: military vehicles, several BattleBots, a bus, puzzle cubes, a few office machines, as well as the aforementioned Star Trek models. Look for the download link at the bottom of the page here.

Star Trek Papercraft: Hazard Team Helmet

I finally finished another papercraft model from the Star Trek Voyager Elite Force video game. This is the helmet that the members of Voyager's Hazard Team wear when they are sent on missions into hostile environments. In the video game the playable character wears this helmet on a mission in space and also on a mission to the engineering wing of Voyager during a radiation leak. This model is large enough to be worn. The opaque pieces of the visor may be used as a pattern to cut a visor out of transparent material. That way you might actually be able to see where you are going when the helmet is on. ^^ Details of the template are:

Scale: 1:1 estimated
Finished Size: 13.4"(34 cm) x 12.2"(31 cm) x 15.7"(40 cm)

Number of sheets: 15
Number of parts: 25

Difficulty: 2/5

Star Trek Papercraft: Mobile Emitter

Here's a simple Star Trek Elite Force papercraft while I finish up more complex projects. This is the mobile emitter worn by the Emergency Medical Hologram doctor on the starship Voyager. The mobile emitter is a self-contained holographic projector, generating the photons and force fields necessary to allow the holographic doctor to move outside the confines of the medical bay holographic emitters (even so far as to leave the ship entirely!).

Star Trek Papercraft: Medical Tricorder & Scanner

Here's another papercraft from the Star Trek Voyager Elite Force video game. This is the medical tricorder and scanner used by Starfleet medical personnel in the game, including the Emergency Medical Hologram (EMH) doctor. Like the Starfleet PADD papercraft I did previously, the textures on this model are a little too grainy for my liking, but since I thought this model would interest enough people I went ahead and posted it. If I had the time, I would pull the PDF into Photoshop and redo the textures. The template info is as follows:

Scale: 1:1
Finished Size:
* Tricorder - 3.5" (8.9 cm) x 8" (20.3 cm)
* Scanner - 4" (10.2 cm)
Number of sheets: 2
Number of parts: 6
Difficulty: 1/5
Download

A while back, I had a request to do a standard Starfleet tricorder papercraft, but I found that the 3D model in Elite Force is really rough and doesn't look much like the tricorders from the Voyager television show. So, unfortunately, this medical version is the best I will be able to do in the way of tricorder papercraft.

Star Trek Papercraft: Hirogen Shuriken

For lack of a better term, I call this weapon a "shuriken", although at 12" (30.5 cm) from tip to tip it is way larger than most real shurikens. In the Star Trek Voyager Elite Force video game this object appears on a wall of weapons inside a Hirogen starship. The Hirogen are an ancient nomadic alien species whose culture revolves around "the hunt". The weapons displayed on the weapon walls inside their ships are those used for the final kill of the wounded prey at the end of the hunt. Papercraft template info is as follows:

Scale: 1:1 (estimated)
Finished Size: 12" (30.5 cm) across
Number of sheets: 3
Number of parts: 12
Difficulty: 4/5
Download

I have numerous works in progress for Elite Force papercraft, but I am finding that the more complex 3D models are taking a significant amount of editing in order to make them papercraft ready. This may slow down how often I am able to release Star Trek models in the future. Those video game designers just aren't always thinking about papercraft when they design their 3D models. ^^

Star Trek Papercraft: Terran Empire Knife

In the Star Trek universe there is an alternate reality where instead of the peaceful United Federation of Planets there exists the brutal Terran Empire. This evil alternate reality was first introduced in the original 1960's Star Trek television show episode entitled Mirror, Mirror. At one point in the Star Trek Voyager Elite Force video game the crew of Voyager encounter the crew of a Terran Empire ship. This papercraft is of the knife that some of the Terran crew carry.

Star Trek Papercraft: PADD

Another Star Trek papercraft is finished. This is the Elite Force video game's version of a Starfleet "personal access display device" or PADD for short. Think of it as a hand held computer interface. I made this papercraft 1:2 scale rather than 1:1 scale like the previous Star Trek device models because it was just too floppy at 1:1 scale and also the model's texture is somewhat grainy and looks better at a smaller scale. Here is the template info:

Scale: 1:2
Finished Size: 3" (7.6 cm) x 4.5" (11.5 cm)
Number of sheets: 1
Number of parts: 8
Difficulty: 1/5

Star Trek Papercraft: Klingon Knife

Here's another papercraft based on a 3D model from the Star Trek Voyager Elite Force video game. This is the game's version of the D'k tahg, the traditional Klingon warrior's knife. The knife is seen only briefly in the video game when the player must attempt to sneak past a Klingon enemy who is busy eating some meat.

Template Info:
Scale: 1:1
Finished Size: 17" (43 cm)
Number of sheets: 3
Number of parts: 11
Difficulty: 2/5
Download

Construction tip: Build from the blade downward. Doing so makes it easier to reach inside and hold the flaps down while the glue drys.

Star Trek Papercraft: Hypospray

I have finished my second papercraft based on 3D models from the Star Trek Voyager Elite Force video game. This is the hypospray used in the game by the Emergency Medical Hologram (also known as "The Doctor"). Hyposprays are tools used to give injections of medications and have appeared in each one of the Star Trek television series to date. Here is the template info:

Scale: 1:1
Finished Size: 7.5"(19 cm)

Star Trek Papercraft - Borg Cube

As I mentioned in a earlier post, I have started working on some papercraft based on 3D models from the video game Star Trek Voyager Elite Force. Elite Force is based on the characters and settings of the Star Trek: Voyager television show. I am starting out simple and working my way toward more and more complex models. This Borg Cube papercraft is the first to be finished. The special stand with an indentation to hold the cube is my own design. The Cube is the typical starship of the Borg, a race of cybernetic beings whose goal is to "assimilate" all other races they encounter. Template information for the model is as follows:

Scale: approximately 1:53000
Finished Size: 3"(7.6 cm) high including base
Number of sheets: 2
Number of parts: 3
Difficulty: 1/5

Star Trek Papercraft - Mini Phaser Rifle

For being Jonathan Sheppard's first attempt at papercraft design, I think he did an excellent job. This 8" (20 cm) long papercraft phaser rifle was modeled after the version of the weapon that appears in the video game Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force and the movie Star Trek: First Contact. A PDF template of the rifle is available from Sheppard's deviantArt page here.

I have been itching to try my hand at creating some papercraft from 3D models ripped from video games and since I do have a copy of Elite Force... be on the lookout for some Star Trek papercraft of my own in coming weeks.
