Crypt Worm Minature Gaming Papercraft

One Monk Miniatures has revamped their miniature gaming website and are now offering some free paper models that were not previously available. Most notable among the new offerings is this purple "crypt worm" model. This giant graveyard dwelling worm appears to be a distant cousin of either the sand worms of Dune or the graboids from Tremors. ^^ This and other free One Monk paper models may be downloaded here. Other models available include crypts, a steampunk tank, a 2.5D Cthulhu, battle cars, and numerous figure flats.

Maniac Mansion Papercraft: Purple Tentacle

The 1993 PC game, Day of the Tentacle, is a sequel to the 1987 graphic adventure game, Maniac Mansion. The villain of Day of the Tentacle is a purple, sentient tentacle appropriately known as "The Purple Tentacle." The Hellforge gaming website began offering this Purple Tentacle papercraft back in 2009. The download for the Tentacle works well enough, but on my computer at least an error message pops up when attempting to open the RAR file. But by ignoring the error message and proceeding anyway, I was able to extract one of the two templates. The build photo above is by Destro2k.

UPDATE: As of 5/1/2011 the Hellforge website is down. Destro2k has graciously provided the template for those who are interested. Just click on the link above to his DeviantART page then look for the "download file" link in the upper right hand corner.

One-eyed Monster Paper Toy 2

Monster paper toys, you gotta love them. :) This one-eyed, flame-headed monster with tentacles for arms was created by Adam Bernardo using Dolly Oblong's "paper totem" template as a guide. Want to build one? Adam has the template for his monster paper toy posted on his blog here.

Minion Paper Toy

One of the readers of my blog who goes by the name "b0bman" has designed his first paper toy. He asked me if I would post his design. Always happy to help a new papercraft artist get started, I said "yes". B0bman calls his paper toy "Minion". I presume this somewhat sinister looking minion has a master somewhere even more sinister than himself. ;) A PDF template of Minion may be downloaded here.

Frankenstein Monster Paper Toy

Here's a Frankenstein monster paper toy by a German comic artist that likes to go by just "George". The title of this paper toy is "Hippenstein's Monster" presumably because of the "hip" clothes he is wearing. :) The one page, six part template for the monster may be downloaded here.

Lord of the Rings Papercraft: Shelob

For whatever the reason, Lord of the Rings papercraft is a rare thing. This Shelob paper model is one of the few examples around. Shelob is described by author J. R. R. Tolkien as being an "evil thing in spider form" whose food was "all living things". In the books, Shelob first appears in the second book in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Two Towers, however in the movie trilogy her appearance is delayed until the The Return of the King, the third book in the series. This papercraft was created by "Kangu" and the Pepakura PDO template is available here. When building this model it should be noted that the gluing tabs for the legs may need to be trimmed down some in order to get the legs to fit together properly. [via Bongo Papercraft]

Lovecraft Papercraft: Elder Thing

Well, it's not Cthulhu, but it comes close. Dubbed the "Elder Things" by the Antarctic explorers who found them in H. P. Lovecraft's novella At the Mountains of Madness, these creatures were thought by the explorers to be extraterrestrials who colonized Earth one billion years ago. This papercraft Elder Thing was created by UK artist Wayne Peters for use in 28mm scale role-playing games. The PDF template is located here. [via Propnomicon]

3D Frankenstein Monster Mask Papercraft

Apparently the real life Frankenstein Castle near Darmstadt, Germany now houses a restaurant and dinner theater! As part of the restaurant's 2009 Halloween festivities they are offering on their website a nicely done, printable 3D Frankenstein monster mask (kind of looks like Boris Karloff doesn't it?). The link for the PDF papercraft template may be found here. Instructions for assembling the mask are in German only.

Loch Ness Monster Papercraft

When I first came across this papercraft I thought it might be a dinosaur, but after I translated the Japanese I found instead it was a papercraft of Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster. Now we just need some paper models of Bigfoot and a chupacabra to make the set complete. ^^ The template for Nessie is offered by the Mochizuki Printing Company here.

Plant Monster Paper Toys

These odd little plant monster paper toys are free downloads created by Jellyface to encourage the planting of trees on “World Environment Day” which this year was on June 5, 2009. From left to right the names of these creatures are "Chlo", "Ro" and "Phyll". Get it? Chlorophyll is the green pigment in most plants. Jellyface is a project between Joe, a graphic designer, and Fau, a creative dressmaker who are based in Italy. Their primary work is plush toys that look very similar to these paper toys. Go here to download templates for these three. There is also a "coral monster" named, of course, "Coral" and a blank template you can customize and submit for a contest, but hurry the contest deadline is September 30th.

One-Eyed Monster Paper Toys

It's hard to pass up a good cartoonish monster paper toy. ^^ Here are two of my favorites, both with a single eye. Each of these was created by Maximiliano Garcia Luna who brought us the Eye of Providence paper toy which also had a single eye (hmmm, I am sensing a trend here). The templates for these papertoys are found here and here.

Cute Monster Papercraft

These fanciful monsters are what UK illustrator Jennifer Bryan calls "Creaturekebabs". On her website, Jennifer offers a unique line of artwork and products based on her Creaturekebab characters. These four papercraft versions of her monsters are available as free downloads. There are no instructions included with the .jpg templates, but hey, figuring out how to build them is half the fun. Send Jennifer a build photo of one of these and you just might win a prize. You can grab the templates at the bottom of the page here.

Monster Papertoy - Red Creature

I ran across this bad boy on deviantART and couldn't resist building him. At 6 inches (15.2 cm) tall he is a good head and shoulders above most of the other papertoys I have built. I keep thinking I should maybe store something in his tray-like lower jaw like some M&M's or some Skittles. :) Simply titled "Red Creature 2.0", this papertoy was designed by Alex Rietveld, Netherlands, 2008. The template for the monster can be downloaded here.
