Gremlins Papercraft: Printable Mask

The comedy horror movie Gremlins gave many a child nightmares in the 80's. Now thanks to UK illustrator Nik Holmes you can make your own cartoonish mask of the movie's troublesome little monsters. The two page printable template for the mask is available at Holmes' blog here.

Lovecraft Papercraft: Elder Thing

Well, it's not Cthulhu, but it comes close. Dubbed the "Elder Things" by the Antarctic explorers who found them in H. P. Lovecraft's novella At the Mountains of Madness, these creatures were thought by the explorers to be extraterrestrials who colonized Earth one billion years ago. This papercraft Elder Thing was created by UK artist Wayne Peters for use in 28mm scale role-playing games. The PDF template is located here. [via Propnomicon]

Hellraiser Papercraft: Metallic Lament Configuration

I usually don't consider printing papercraft on anything other than white cardstock but, as you can see from these papercraft Lament Configurations, other materials can give you great results. The two smaller cubes on the left were printed on colored construction paper using a black and white template. However, the cube that interests me the most is the one on the right in which the same black and white template was printed on gold metallic paper. I can see lots of possibilities for using this technique, everything from Christmas ornaments to shiny metal weapons. These Hellraiser papercrafts are the work of Ulrich Schreitmueller of Germany. Information on how he built the puzzle boxes may be found here.

Isaac Clarke Dead Space Paper Toy

From the Gavin Schmidt (the same designer who gave us the Harry Potter paper toy) comes another creation using the "Briki" paper toy template. This time the subject is Isaac Clarke, the main character from the Dead Space video game. I kind of like the hand drawn look of the art. Get your own printable template here at robotmartini.com.

Gremlins Papercraft: 3D Glasses Gizmo

I thought Mexican graphic designer Sercho05 did an excellent job with the graphics on this Gremlins paper toy. Another nice feature of the toy is that the 3D glasses are removable. Now it's been a long time since I saw the movie, but one thing I do know is that you should make darn sure it's not after midnight before you go dropping Gizmo down in a pile of popcorn like that. ^^ The template for this paper toy is available at Sercho05's deviantART page here.

Papercraft Video Game Skulls

What these two unrelated skull papercraft have is common is that they were both ripped from video games. On the left is a golden skull treasure reward from Tomb Raider IV: The Last Revelation. On the right is a skull that appears in a treasure chest in American McGee's Alice. The original templates for these were both very small so I enlarged them so that each template was as large as possible yet still fit on one sheet of letter size paper. The resulting skulls are 2.5" (6.4 cm) and 1.75" (4.4 cm) tall. The Tomb Raider skull was ripped and unfolded by Alex at Saschacraft Papercraft and may be downloaded here. The Alice treasure chest skull was ripped and unfolded by the Webdude and is available for download at his website here. The Webdude's website has been down a couple of times this year so if you can't pull up his website at first try again another time.

UPDATE 7/21/11 - Looks like the Webdude's site is down for good. An alternate location to download his skull template is here.

House of Chtulhu Papertoy

The last instruction on the template for this "House of Cthulhu" papertoy reads "Open the door a crack and stand back!" Designed by Jeffery Dixon to appear as if the mighty Cthulhu has squeezed himself into a tiny shack, building this toy was good creepy fun. The best part was it only about took ten minutes to put together. This papertoy was created in 2008 and is available for download here.

Paper Cthulhu Mask

If you ever need a quick Chthulhu mask, :) this may be just the thing for you. Print, cut out, and you are ready to go. The ever popular Chthulhu is a horrific cosmic being originally created by writer H. P. Lovecraft. This particular mask was created by artist David Galvan for Halloween 2007. Looking closely, it appears that the mask was created from photographs of actual tentacles and scales. Downloads of the mask in either jpg or pdf format are available here.

PS, A previous post of mine on Cthulhu papercraft can be found here. Be on the lookout for more in the future!

Arcane Cube Papercrafts

Here are two identically sized (but unrelated) cube papercrafts. What these cubes have in common is that they are models of boxes with magical properties. On the left is a papercraft of the "Lament Configuration" from the Hellraiser movie series. The Lament Configuration is a puzzle box that when solved opens a portal to a Hell-like dimension. On the right is a "Horadric Cube" from the Diablo II video game. When certain items are placed inside the Horadric Cube they become transmuted into different items. The original creator of the Lament Configuration papercraft is unknown, but the original template plus several modified versions may be downloaded here. The Horadric Cube papercraft was created by DeviantART member "Supaslim", USA, 2009 and may be downloaded here.

Lovecraft Papercraft

Here are three papertoys from the realm of Lovecraftian horror literature. Writer H. P. Lovecraft and his circle of authors created a shared fictional universe. In this universe there are various arcane books of forbidden lore which reveal secrets about ancient monstrous entities. The black book is a papertoy of Unaussprechlichen Kulten, a book first appearing in the works of Robert E. Howard. The yellow papertoy book is De Vermis Mysteriis first seen in the works of Robert Bloch. On top of the books is a papertoy of Cthulhu, one of the ancient entities often mentioned in Lovecraftian literature. Each of these toys was created by Jerom, France, 2007 and can be found here, here, and here.

Tabletop Graveyard Papercraft

This past Halloween I pieced together a tabletop graveyard decoration from several free paper models available on the internet. The miniature ghost, zombie and werewolf figures in the graveyard are from a customizable game called Heroscape. The scale of the graveyard is roughly 1:58 (28mm) with the finished scene being about 8" (20cm) by 10" (25cm) and 5 1/2" (13cm) tall. Models included in the scene are:
  • Wall, gate, & graves by Wizards of the Coast, USA, 2003.
    Models are here.

  • Mausoleum & ground texture by Oidessy Paper Models, Italy, 2003.
    Models are here.

  • Tomb by Stones Edges, USA, 2004.
    Model is here.
