Heroscape Dice Bowl Papercraft

In the Heroscape miniatures board game by Hasbro, players may roll as many as 12 dice at a time to determine the outcome of a battle. To keep the numerous dice corralled between rolls, Heroscape enthusiast "AliasQTip" created this unique papercraft dice bowl. The images inside the bowl are meant to resemble a dungeon, while the outside resembles castle walls emblazoned with crests from the Heroscape game. A PDF template of the dice bowl is available at the Heroscapers.com website here. (In a previous post of mine here, you will find a Heroscape dice tower which matches the bowl)

Kingdom Hearts II Papercraft: Sora Card & Dice

I built these KH2 papercraft just for fun. They are the card and die form the character Sora becomes when he loses to certain attacks by Luxord, the Gambler of Fate. Even though Sora is transformed into only a single die in the game, I went ahead and created two dice (not that you could actually use them in any kind of board game). The 3D model the dice are based on has unequal sides which probably throws off the randomness of their rolls.

The card form Sora is sized to match real playing cards. The back of the card has Nobody symbols and matches Luxord's Fair Game weapon. The front of the card has a low resolution image of Sora (the game developers must have decided not to use a higher resolution image since the card appears only briefly and at a distance in the game). A download of the card and dice template is available here.

Stone Textured Paper Dice

Here's some nice stone textured papercraft dice by artist William McAusland. If the templates for these dice are printed one per page, the dice come out rather large, so I printed out four templates per page instead. Doing so resulted in the finished dice being a more usable size. Six different dice are available, four of which are pictured: d4, d6, d8, and a pair of d10 dice that are equivalent to a d100. Not pictured are the d12 and d20 dice. Templates may be downloaded here.

Cute Paper Dice Birds

These cute papercraft birds may not look like dice at first glance, but in the lower right corner of each face there is a small number. The bird dice come complete with a nifty carrying case with a hinged lid. The templates for these are available here at a Japanese website called "Mongo Village". If I knew Japanese I could tell you more, but it appears these birds are characters that live on an imaginary island.

Heroscape Papercraft Dice Tower

One of my favorite board games of all time is Heroscape. Heroscape is a customizable miniature gaming system that lets you build your own battlefields and create custom armies from a wide assortment of characters such as dragons, secret agents, robots, samurai, vikings, aliens, cowboys and orcs. You can imagine my delight when I found something that combines two of my favorite things: papercraft and Heroscape. This papercraft dice tower was created by a Heroscape enthusiast for use with the game and contains nice touches such as some surprise images on the baffles inside the tower that can be seen when looking down though the hole in the top. The template for the tower may be downloaded from the Heroscapers forum here.

Foamcore Dice Tower

Well, it's not made out of paper, but it's close. At Instructables.com I found instructions on how to build a dice tower and decided to make one for myself. This particular tower is constructed using black foamcore, toothpicks, self-adhesive felt, and some glue. I didn't follow the instructions exactly. For one, I thought it looked nice enough without spray painting the whole thing as the original designer did. Also for quieter use, I applied felt to all the baffles inside the tower and not only to the tray at the bottom. Easy to follow instructions and a short video of the tower in action may be found here.

Single Page Paper Dice Tower

When playing board games where rolling more than two dice is required, a dice tower comes in handy to keep the dice from ending up on the floor or scattering the game setup. In 2008 designer Russell Howell created a dice tower that can be printed on a single sheet of cardstock and assembled without glue. I used red cardstock for mine to add some color. The tower template may be downloaded here. An optional dice catcher tray extension to allow more dice to be rolled at once may be downloaded here. The green dice shown in the photo are special edition dice from the Heroscape gaming system.

Paper Dice Bonanza

Bruno Van de Casteele at www.puam.be has created a series of ten paper dice for use in role-playing games (RPG). The dice designs range from a two sided die all the way up to a pair of ten sided dice that can be used to simulate the roll of a single one hundred sided die. Five of Bruno's designs are shown. From left to right, following the notation common in RPG systems, the dice are a d8, a d10, a d4, a d20, and a d6. If the dice templates are printed without modification, the resulting dice come out rather large as can be seen by the size of the red d10 (I have added a quarter to the photo for reference). I was able to get a smaller scale on the other four dice by printing two templates per one sheet of cardstock. Downloads of the templates are available in both PDF and GIF format.

Papercraft Skull Dice

Here are two unrelated pairs of papercraft dice with skulls. The red pair on top are the Oogie Boogie's dice. Oogie Boogie is a villian from the 1993 Disney movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas. Oogie also is a reoccurring character in the Kingdom Hearts video game series.

The black pair of dice are a weapon called "Demon Dice" from the video game American McGee's Alice. When these dice are cast in the game a demon is summoned who then attacks your enemy.

The Oogie Boogie Dice are by Robert Nava, USA, 2008 and can be found here. The Demon Dice are by Rick the Webdude, USA, 2007 and can be found here.
