Here are some cute animal finger puppets from the Japanese website "Terra Cotta". In addition to the cat, dog, penguin and duck shown here, there is also a "smiling" grey cat puppet available. The construction of these papercraft animal puppets is very simple and consists primarily of hollow paper cones and tubes. Look for the download links under the pictures of the puppets here.

Here is some wonderfully creative origami by UK artist Robin Glynn. Both are characters from animated films by Studio Ghibli. On the left is an origami totoro from My Neighbor Totoro. On the right is the cat Gigi from the film, Kiki's Delivery Service. Folding diagrams are available for both the characters. A link to the diagram for the totoro may be found at the bottom of the page here. A link for the diagram for Gigi may be found at the top of the page here.

These cantankerous automata critters were created by Juan Diego Sanin. Turn the cranks on their backs and their arms wave and the stars on their chests rotate. From left to right we have Gato Satanico (Satanic Cat), Oso Maloso (Bad Bear), and Conejo Malgenio (Cranky Rabbit). The free papercraft templates for the evil trio may be downloaded here, here and here.

Just to give cat loving papercrafters equal opportunity with robot dog and dragon loving papercrafters, here is a cat illusion papercraft. ^_^ Just like the Super Robot Dog I posted yesterday, if constructed correctly this kitty's eyes and head will appear to follow you around the room as you move. I like to give credit where credit is due, but I was unable to find out who created this one. Perhaps the text at the bottom of the template would provide a clue if I could find someone to translate it for me. A copy of the template can be found at /po/ Archives Papercraft & Origami Database.

In a previous post I mentioned making papercraft animals for my daughter. Here are some more I built for her. Each one of these papertoys is based on a cylinder shape. From left to right the models are:- "Funny Cats" (there are several designs available) by Yuuku, Japan, 2004 which can be found here.
- "Goldie Chick" by Tadan, Sweden, 2007 which can be found here.
- Panda by Toylava, Japan, 2006 which can be found here.

My daughter wanted animals as decorations on her birthday cake. These are a few I built for the occasion. Each one is constructed out of 110 lb (200 gsm) cardstock, although using something less stiff might have been easier due to their curving construction. To keep their paper feet from getting ruined by the icing I designed a cake top platform for them to sit on. With some modifications I may post the platform later as a download. All the animals pictured were designed by Tetsuya Watabe, Japan, 2007-2008 and can be found here.
